The celebrations for Napoli’s fourth Scudetto have just begun1 but, 4 what does it represent and what is its contribution to the perfection achieved.

What value can we give to the number four only as a sum of all the times that Napoli has been champion of Italy?

I start from Pythagoras’ Theoremmaroo che palle e che c’azzecc!2

Pythagoras’ Theorem

The square of the hypotenuse is the sum of the squares of the legs.

The sides marked with the number 1 are the sides of the legs while the number 2 is the hypotenuse. The square of the leg gives a value of one. $$ 1^2 = 1$$ While if I add the two legs $$ 1^2 + 1^2 = 1 + 1 = 2$$ So, $2$ is the square of the hypotenuse which is derived from the sum of the squares of the two legs. If we want to calculate the hypotenuse we have to reverse the operation of squaring… it’s not complicated let’s see. If the square of $1^2=1$, the inverse operation of the square is the square root so to know the value of the leg $\sqrt{1}=1$.

Now we can define how much the hypotenuse is: $$\sqrt{2}=1,4142…$$

In other words $$ipotenusa = \sqrt{1^2 + 1^2} = \sqrt{2}$$

How we arrive at the harmony of the number 4. The triangle built on the cross contains a rational number and an irrational number. Look at the figure it looks like a four and if you see the result of the root of $2$, you observe that $4$ contains the synthesis of the ratio between one and two and that is $4142$.

The Greek cross, also known as the square crux immissa, is a symbol composed of four arms of equal length, which intersect to form a single geometric figure. This cross has a long history and represented early Christianity up until the Renaissance.

The meaning of the Greek cross is deeply linked to religious and spiritual concepts, and represents balance and harmony. The number four, which characterizes the structure of the cross, is associated with stability and solidity, representing the four cardinal points and the four seasons of the year and the fourth Scudetto of Napoli.
