We are not fully aware of the change that is slowly manifesting itself, linked to the concept of Fourth Industrial Revolution. It is concretely difficult to integrate in a single context the different issues related to change in the world of work. From artificial intelligence to the protection of the individual, which must be guaranteed in an even more incisive way than the protection of his privacy.
These concepts were expressed by Bill Gates AI and innovation , on February 3, 2025 he returned to the Harvard campus and discussed the latest technological innovation: artificial intelligence.
Gates spoke about how his career at Microsoft took computing technology from large, centralized machines accessible only to governments and corporations, to Persona Computers in the hands of individuals. The conversation turned to artificial intelligence (AI), which Gates sees as an extension of the digital revolution, built on chips and the internet.
Gates noted that while early computing was limited by hardware and a lack of sophisticated software, today’s AI is limited by training data and interpretability. However, AI has the potential to replace human capabilities, not just amplify them. This development could lead to completely unfettered intelligence but also to problems such as the spread of false narratives and misinformation.
In education, Gates envisioned AI tutors that understand not only pedagogy but also student motivation, adapting in real time. In medicine, AI could revolutionize diagnosis, synthesizing vast medical data in real time and providing primary diagnoses, reducing the burden on human doctors. Gates concluded that AI could bring equity to medicine, especially in developing countries, where the ratio of doctors to patients is very low.
Gates’ statements:
- Humans no longer needed for most things.
- It’s amazing but also a little scary, because it’s happening very quickly and without limits.
Ability to predict the future
The ability to sense epochal changes is not for everyone, Václav Havel in a speech given on the occasion of the awarding of the Liberty Medal1 on July 4, 1994 in Independence Hall in Philadelphia anticipated the times by sensing that the modern era had ended.
Below is a brief summary and we invite you to read the text click here , also published on The New York Times Archives click here .
The modern era could be considered over, as many values and certainties that characterized it are disappearing. The discovery of America and the conquest of the Moon could be seen as the events that marked the beginning and the end of this era. Today, we find ourselves in an era of transition, in which something is dying and something new is being born.
The global and multicultural civilization we are creating faces challenges such as peaceful coexistence and creative cooperation between different cultures, peoples and religions. However, traditional solutions based on reason and science may not be sufficient to address these challenges.
Havel suggests that the answer may be found in a renewed awareness of our connection to the universe and nature, and in a rediscovery of the values and principles that underlie all cultures. Science itself may offer a way to achieve this awareness, through theories such as the Anthropic Principle and the Gaia Hypothesis.
Ultimately, the real hope for humanity may be a renewed certainty that we are rooted in the Earth and the universe, and that this awareness allows us to transcend ourselves and live in harmony with each other and the natural world.
The Creator has given man the right to freedom. It seems that man can realize this freedom only if he does not forget the one who gave it to him.
Today AI makes choices for us
Examples:
- The machine determines the severity level of the patient in the emergency room at the time of admission, potentially influencing the life or death of a person in the event that a critical situation is underestimated. In this context, who is responsible: the admission nurse during triage?
- The autopilot assesses that there is no more room to intervene, the impact is imminent, and therefore faces a difficult choice: run over the young pedestrian or deviate from the trajectory to impact the grandmother who is in the immediate vicinity. Who should be saved, the young man who is crossing the street or the grandmother?
- Meta artificial intelligence, integrated with WhatsApp and Facebook, is becoming increasingly invasive in our content. Today it can limit the spread of posts or censor content based on certain topics considered objectionable. Tomorrow, you could find yourself with a complaint from the AI that has classified you as a dangerous subject.
- Facial recognition technology presents numerous risks, can violate fundamental freedoms, lead to the arrest of innocent people and facilitate the persecution of minorities.
- Dad Took Naked Photo of His Baby for Doctor, Google Flagged Him as a Criminal. August 21, 2022 The New York Times.
- 04/18/2025 YouTube is destroying me I don’t know what to do anymore - Alberto Nasca content creator with more than 1.07 million subscribers, an activity that gives work to his team of collaborators, Google is downgrading him or rather the AI has targeted him.
From machine-controlled work to work replaced by machines
The interference of machines on work will lead to their abuse towards the elimination of work. For example, a robot caregiver for the elderly will certainly be better than the classic caregiver who will find himself without a job, multiplied by all those jobs, even intellectual ones, subject to extinction, such as accountants, lawyers, engineers, will no longer have any reason to exist.
The interference of machines in the world of work will lead to their domination, to the point of eliminating many professions. For example, a robot carer for the elderly will certainly be more efficient than the traditional carer, who will find himself without a job. This phenomenon will also affect many intellectual professions that could lose their relevance. You see it, it is before your eyes, supermarket checkouts are becoming automated to the point of their complete elimination and gradually in other sectors, the work of cashiers is slowly and inexorably disappearing.
We will reach a point where society will be run by machines and man will no longer work, receiving a universal income!
Work is destined to disappear in a context of epochal change, in which machines will govern man, who risks becoming a non-thinking slave of the system. To reach social levels and a universal wage, the individual will have to submit to rules that will be established by non-human minds.
From IoB to the immortality of the essence of the person
The Internet of Connected Bodies, often abbreviated as IoB, represents an evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) concept, focusing on the interconnection of devices and sensors directly with the human body. This technology encompasses a wide range of applications that monitor, analyze and interact with the human body, offering new possibilities.
In the near future, we will have brain interfaces that will allow us to connect directly with our minds. This is a rapidly evolving area of research, which could lead to the possibility of backing up a person’s mind.
In Genesis, we read that God, when creating man, said: ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, over the cattle, over all the earth, and over every reptile that creeps on the earth’ (Genesis 1:26). This statement emphasizes that man was created in the image of God and was given dominion over the earth and the animals. Consequently, man holds a privileged position in creation and has the responsibility to care for the animals and the environment around him.
Man is creating immortality the essence itself of the individual will be concentrated in the digital brain which, thanks to quantum entanglement, will be able to create a perfect clone.
Man believes himself superior to God but, he will probably be suffocated by the same digital creatures he is creating.
Liberty Medal - The Liberty Medal is an annual award administered by the National Constitution Center (NCC) of the United States to recognize leadership in the pursuit of freedom. It was founded by the Philadelphia Foundation. Notable names have been awarded the medal: Lech Wałęsa, Jimmy Carter, Nelson Mandela, the singer Bono, Muhammad Ali. ↩︎
